The Alberta Vehicle Equipment regulations outline the necessary equipment and safety features of different types of vehicles, as well as prohibiting certain modifications.
There can be a lot of confusion regarding what vehicle modifications are potentially illegal since it isn’t against the law to sell modifications. It is the responsibility of the driver to ensure their vehicle is in compliance with legislation. The most commonly observed vehicle equipment violations include: tinted front windows, coloured or tinted headlamps and tail lamps, and exhaust modifications that increase the noise produced by a vehicle.
These violations can warrant a violation ticket for the driver and can lead to the vehicle being removed from the roadway. Regulations are in place to ensure the safety of all road users.
