Stollery Down Syndrome Clinic will not close

EDMONTON — In response to incorrect information in the media, Alberta Health Services (AHS) would like to provide clarification regarding changes to services for children with Down Syndrome in Edmonton and northern Alberta.

There are no plans by AHS to close the Stollery Children’s Hospital Down Syndrome Clinic. Patients and their families will see little or no change in the care that they receive.

We agree that caring for these children is important, and we are proud of the services and level of care our Clinic provides. Parents, patients and the community can rest assured that that work will continue.

We are looking at alternative ways to fund a Nurse Coordinator position at the Clinic, and are working with our partners to ensure funding of that position is in place.

AHS is committed to providing comprehensive medical care at the Down Syndrome Clinic through the Stollery.

"AHS will continue to work with families, community and practitioners to ensure that children receive the care they need," says Executive Director of the Stollery Children’s Hospital, Linda McConnan.
